Tuition classes in Sabaragamuwa to be regulated

All private tuition classes in the Sabaragamuwa Province will be regulated with a view to ensuring their standards and also ensuring the safety of students, Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Damma Dissanayake said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the sports meet of Sujatha Maha Vidyalaya in Rambukkana, recently.

Under this move, all tuition classes will have to be registered with the Provincial Education Ministry.

Besides, measures will be taken to remove all publicity material such as cutouts, banners, and posters around schools in the Ratnapura and Kegalle districts. The Governor said attention will be focused on the quality of education and the facilities available at tuition classes. Seating, toilet facilities, ventilation, and quality of building complexes will be some of the facilities monitored.

Meanwhile, measures are being taken to free all tuition classes of the province from the drug menace, in association with the police, Excise Department, and provincial and district secretariats, he said.

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has also passed an Act banning of holding of private tuition classes on Sundays and Poya days.
