MEP proposes novel programme for a new Govt.

Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) proposes a novel programme to create a new government which will fulfill future expectations.

Addressing the media yesterday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, MEP Leader Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardane charged that the country is now experiencing a huge crisis situation and this crisis situation is worsening day-by-day.

“Though the government is trying to interpret it as a political crisis, it is really an economic crisis.” the MP said.

He further said that the economic growth which was as 7 percent in 2015 has now been reduced to 3.9-4 percent. The MEP proposes a market economy based on state as well private sector and public participation to overcome this crisis situation. He further added that the dispute between the President and the Prime Minister and the absence of a strong, effective democratic Parliament has badly affected to the country. So holding a general election is very much important to overcome this situation.

Commenting on the draft Counter Terrorism Act (CTA) which has still to be presented to Parliament, MP Gunawardane charged that the government is attempting to suppress trade unions, students unions and other forces who raise their voice against the government.
