Three accused raise preliminary objections

Three other accused indicted regarding the D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case, yesterday informed the Permanent High Court-at-Bar that they are expecting to raise preliminary objections against indictments.

Accordingly, the case filed against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and six others was yesterday fixed for March 15 to consider the preliminary objections.

On February 11, the Permanent High Court-at-Bar decided to overrule preliminary objections raised by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and six others in connection with the D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case citing that the Permanent High Court-at-Bar has jurisdiction to hear this case.

Meanwhile, the sixth accused, Devage Mahinda Saliya, was yesterday present in court and tendered medical certificates to support his absence on a previous occasion.

Indictments were filed against seven accused; former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, members of the Director Board of Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (LRDC) Chairman Prasad Harshan de Silva, Bhadra Udulawathi Kamaladasa, Sudammika Keminda Artigala, Saman Kumara Abraham Galappatti, Devage Mahinda Saliya and Srimathi Mallika Kumari Senadheera.

This was under seven counts for allegedly misappropriating LRDC funds amounting to Rs.33.9 million.
