Kaumal reaches 100-wicket mark

The left arm leg spinner of Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa Kaumal Nanayakkara became the first bowler to capture 100 wickets in the on going inter school division on under 19 cricket tournament in 15 matches. He missed the the Holy Cross College match due to rain.

When he walked into the middle to bowl against Mahanama College, Colombo he had 98 wickets under his belt and at the end of day one he has claimed 5 for 70 to bring his tally to 103 wickets.

Kaumal is the first ever cricketer from Prince of Wales’ College to achieve this very rare feat with the big match against Sebs in hand. He has three ten wickets hauls with the best being 11 for 53 versus D. S. Senanayake Vidyalaya and seven five wicket hauls with 7 for 64 against De Mazenod. Last year Cambrian captain Savindu Peiris claimed 106 wickets including the Big Match and the under 19 tournament matches.

The slow left arm Cambrian bowler W. O. de Silva completed 100 wickets in one year on 10th November 1906 from November previous year. His bowling figures are as follows. 315.2 overs, 56 maidens, 737 runs and 100 wickets at an average of 7.37.
