President lauds SLAF’s ‘immense service’ during war

President Maithripala Sirisena lauded the immense services rendered by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) during the last 68 years.

“The Sri Lanka Air Force, demonstrating its specific skills, weakened the enemy by attacking them directly when the Army and Navy were facing difficult situations in the operation to eradicate the LTTE in the last few decades,” he said.

The President was speaking at the 68th anniversary celebrations of the Air Force at the Hingurakgoda Air Force Base. President Sirisena presented colours to two Flying Squads of the Air Force. He also appreciated the high standards and the quality of the services of the Air Force. The President recalled with gratitude the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for our motherland and those who were disabled. He also paid his tribute to the relatives of the war heroes for their great service to the country.

President Sirisena said the Sri Lanka Air Force performed an excellent service to protect the sea boundaries of the country and has earned respect for fulfilling its duties with great commitment, during the past few decades.

He said that he believes in the future too, the officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force would fulfill their national security duties in a similar manner, with the guidance of the Air Force Commander Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy.

President Sirisena pledged to provide the required new technology and facilities to the Air Force to fulfill its duties in a satisfactory manner. Commander of Defence Services Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Sri Lanka Air Force Commander, Army Commander and officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force and other forces participated in the event.
