Batti’s domestic airline begins operation

A domestic airline service commenced between Colombo, Batticaloa and Trincomalee on Friday to promote tourism in the Eastern Province.

The Serendib Air Travel and the Sri Lanka Tourist and Industries Board jointly inaugurated the airline. It will cater to the foreign tourists and residents of the Eastern Province. They can reach their destinations in an hour from Colombo now.

Sri Lanka Tourist and Industries Board Chairman A.M. Jawfer presided over the inauguration. Eastern Province Governor Dr. M.L.A.M. Hizbullah said the service will increase income from tourism and boost the economy of the province. Airfares of the new airline will be reduced in future, he said.

The service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flight will depart at 10.00 a.m. from Katunayake, reach Batticaloa at 11.00 a.m. and leave for Trincomalee at 11.30 a.m. It will return to Colombo at 3.30 p.m.
