Man carrying 90 kg of beef in bus nabbed

A man carrying 90 kg of beef in two polythene bags in a private bus was arrested recently.

The suspect was produced before Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Sampath Hewawasam and ordered to be fined Rs. 50,000. He was a resident of Nittambuwa.

A senior police officer in Kurunegala told Daily News that about 346 poachers were arrested in the past six months from Kurunegala and Puttalam.

Meanwhile, and accused of murder case receives five years’ RI, Rs. 10,000 fine

An accused of a murder case was sentenced to a five years’ RI and fined Rs. 10,000 by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara recently. The accused, W.M.D.Wickramasinghe (55) , is a resident of Muniwangete, Wariyapola.

He had stabbed H.M.B Nalin Kithsiri to death during a political argument between the two on January 11, 2010.

Wariyapola police arrested the suspect and prosecuted. The case was heard for nine years.
