Work begins for 130 new model villages

2500 Reawakened Villages by September

The Housing Ministry together with the National Housing and Development Authority laid the foundation stone for 130 new model villages throughout the country during the weekend.

This will be carried out under the 2500 Reawakened Villages program carried out by the Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa.

Marking the reconciliation programme of the present government, 40 villages out of the 130 will be set up in the North and the Eastern Provinces. The Welioya village with 1,200 houses and the Bogaswewa village with 1, 000 houses will be vested with the public by the President in May.

At the programme held in Mullaitivu, 400 former LTTE cadres were also awarded with Shilpa Saviya certificates for successfully completing the vocational training.

Their support is expected to be obtained in constructing the houses in these two provinces.

It is the plan of Housing Minister Premadasa to set up 2500 Reawakened Villages throughout the country by September this year.
