Lack of staff at Tanglle hospital premature baby unit

The premature baby unit of the Tangalle Base Hospital is on the verge of closure due to the lack of an adequate number of doctors, sources at the hospital said.

About 300 deliveries occur at this hospital per month and among them, there are several premature babies who need premature treatment.

Doctors at the unit said there are only three doctors to treat such babies, which is not enough.

When queried about the plight of this premature baby care unit from the Hambantota District Director of Health Services Dr. Ranga Chasndrasena said more doctors will be provided by the Provincial Director of Health Services soon.
