A project to farm crabs in Barren paddy fields

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry in collaboration with National Aquaculture Development Authority has implemented a project to farm crabs in the barren paddy fields in the vicinity of the Rekawa lagoon in Tangalle.

Around 50 acres of paddy fields that was left barren due to the mixing of sea water will be utilized for the project and the total estimated cost is Rs. 165 million.

The owners of the barren paddy lands will invest for the project.

State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi who recently engaged in an inspection tour of the proposed area said that the project will generate lots of job opportunities for the youth in the area and it will also enhance tourist attraction.

According to the State Minister, the project will be implemented in three phases.
