Not forever lost!

World Hearing Day is a campaign held each year by the Office of Prevention of Blindness and Deafness of the World Health Organization. Activities take place across the globe and an event is hosted at the World Health Organization on March 3.

On World Hearing Day, WHO draws attention to the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing loss. Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing out on certain sounds and words.

Checking one’s hearing would be the first step towards addressing the issue. In a bid to celebrate the World Hearing Day, Sri Lanka inaugurated its first digitally innovated speech and hearing centre affiliated to the Alexander Graham Bell Association, USA, with the assistance of the WISH foundation. The Centre offers free services for speech and language therapy for the hearing impaired. The day was filled with fun activities such as art and crafts.

A reading corner, games, music and a technology centre have also been established for children.
