Gunadasa Liyanage remembered

Veteran newspaper and periodical writer, author, Parliament interpreter and electronic journalist Gunadasa Liyanage passed away 21 years ago on March 12. Liyanage held the chief-editorship of Riviresa, Lankadeepa, Sathdina, Sinha Kodiya, Dasatha, Kalpana and Sivdesa. His bibliography includes 45 works of different genres such as novels, short stories, biographies, reviews and translations. Mulu Hadin Mama Eyata Pem Kota, Umba Nisa Duwe Man, Dona Kamalavawthi, Cheena Pemkatha, Mallige Vitthi, Asaranayak, Guvanin Giya Godaya, Amme Man Gihin Ennam, Theveni Silpadaya Nokadami, Sit Santhosin Guvanedi Bendi Hada, DB Dhanapalage Viplavaya, Agamethivarun Hathdeneuku Samaga, Asabhya Sahithya Saha Sanskruthika Policiya, Kele Pencha, Gini Valalla, Ko Mage Daruwo Ane, Gamana Nonimei, Delgaha Yata Gedara Viplavaya, Golu Novu Hadawatha and Walpola Rahula Hamuduruwo are among his leading works that attracted popularity.

The commemorative function, Guli Guna Suvanda, will be held at the Bauddhaya Television Network premises of Sambodhi Vihara, Colombo, at 9 am on March 9. Kotte Sri Nagavihara Chief Incumbent and Subhadrarama Deputy Principal Rajakeeya Panditha Venerable Wathuruvila Siri Sujatha Thera will deliver the sermon. The distribution of wheelchairs and books to disabled pupils will be held simultaneously. The event, which will be televised on the Bauddhaya Channel, is a joint effort of Gunadasa Liyanage Commemorative Foundation and Katahanda Media Centre under the supervision of senior journalist Srimath Indrajith Liyanage.

Liyanage will also be remembered at Sripali College, Horana, of which he was a bright old pupil, on March 20. Sirikatha Saha Wilmot, Lankave Puvathpath Mella Kireema,Giniwalalla and Hetapahe Peraliya authored by Liyanage will be relaunched.
