BOC Ran Kekulu awards 2000 Scholarships for Grade 5 highflyers

Two Thousand highflyers of 2018 Grade 5 scholarship examination were felicitated by The Bank of Ceylon’s ‘Ran Kekulu Scholarships 2018’ at ceremonies conducted islandwide.

The main ceremony concluded at the BMICH Colombo and nine other similar events were also held on province base on the same day with the participation of respective students and their parents.

This main ceremony was held with the participation of the Bank’s Chairman Ronald C. Perera as the Chief Guest by invitation of the CEO and General Manager Senarath Bandara. Further twenty five differently abled students who have passed the Grade 5 scholarship examination 2018 were awarded scholarships worth Rs. 15,000/- on February 22 and there will be a monthly grant of Rs. 1000/- till the student passes through O/L examination.

Six of these students were felicitated at the main ceremony held at BMICH Colombo. On part of its CSR initiatives, the bank conducts scholarship programmes, for both Grade 5 and A/L examination highflyers who have excelled in their respective exams, to appreciate the courage and dedication shown by students to become scholars thereafter commit to economic development of the country.

The Bank has been conducting the Grade 5 scholarship examination since 2002 offering higher education scholarships to achievers across the nation. This scholarship offer is available for Ran Kekulu (RKG) account holders apart from many other benefits that are lined up together with the account. In order to become eligible for this special value addition RKG account holders maintained a minimum balance of Rs. 5000/- on the day before 2018 Grade 5 scholarship results was released. 2000 exceptionally performed students based on the marks received at the examination were selected from the pool of eligible applicants.

Ran Kekulu accounts always carry an additional 1% above the normal interest rate. This account is also linked with free life insurance cover for the parent or guardian to a maximum of Rs.500,000/- (minimum balance of Rs.5000/- should be maintained for a period of six months or more prior to the incident). Any parent or guardian who opens Ran Kekulu accounts for more than one child will be covered up to a maximum of Rs. One Million. The child will also get a free medical insurance cover up to Rs.100,000/- per annum in the event of an accident or 10 specified critical illnesses requiring hospitalization in a private hospital for more than one night (minimum balance of Rs.5000/- should be maintained for a period of six months prior to the incident/illness). In case of being admitted to a Government hospital requiring hospitalization for more than three nights the insurance cover would be Rs.600/- per day, for a maximum period of 30 days (conditions apply).
