Two more police officers were arrested by the CID on Tuesday in connection with the abduction, murder and burning of the bodies of the two Rathgama businessmen.
One suspect is a sub-inspector and the other, a constable. The sub inspector is alleged to have been involved in the abduction of the two businessmen, while the constable is alleged to be involved in their abduction and murder. These two policemen, as well as the former OIC of the Southern Province Special Investigations Unit, Inspector Saman Rohana arrested earlier, were produced before the Galle Magistrate yesterday and remanded till March 13.
Inspector Saman Rohana is charged with suppressing information about the abduction and murder. Seven people including six police officers and a forest department beat officer arrested in this connection have been remanded till March 13. A CID spokesman said two more constables are due to be arrested soon for direct involvement in the abduction and murder, while investigations are on to arrest six or seven more policemen in connection with the abduction.
