Applications for graduate teacher vacancies in WP

Gazette on Friday

The Education Ministry will call for applications from Sinhala and Tamil medium graduates to fill the existing graduate teacher vacancies in all schools in the Western Province on Friday.

This is on a recommendation of Western Province Governor M. Azath S. Salley

Speaking to the press, the Governor said schools cannot produce the expected results from public examinations without competent teachers.

“I am happy that I was able to make this arrangement to uplift the standard of education in the province,” he said.

The Governor said there was a consensus at the last Governors’ Guild meeting held in Galle, to give priority to education in all provinces.

The Western Province includes Gampaha, Kalutara and Colombo districts and the new appointments will benefit Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim schools in the province.

It is estimated that about 200 graduate teacher vacancies exist in these schools.
