Joint Opposition has decided to vote against the Budget

Mahajana Eksath Peramuna Leader Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardana today said that the Joint Opposition has already decided to vote against the Budget and not to vote against the President’s expenditure head.

Addressing the media today at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, MEP Leader said that the defeat of President’s expenditure head will create crisis situation in the country since there are very important expenses coming under that.

“But there is no any positive reason to vote in favor of the Budget.” he said.

He further said that the UNP has no majority in the Parliament and they cannot defeat the President’s expenditure head.

Speaking about the currently ongoing 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, MEP Leader questioned why the government of Sri Lanka does not use documentary evidence from British sources to say that the resolution itself is wrong and it based on wrong facts.

Mp Gunawadane charged that Sri Lanka keep silent and be a party to the resolution. “That is a major mistake done by our country. Sri Lanka became a party to the resolution against Sri Lanka which never happened before. We should withdraw that by claiming that our laws are there and our courts are there. So if there are any violations we can handle. Fundamental rights are very strong in our country under the constitution. No one is depriving the exercise in the fundamental rights. All Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims have equal rights before Supreme Court under the fundamental rights.” he added.
