Twenty years’ RI for drug trafficking

Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte sentenced an accused in a drug trafficking case to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs. 100,000, after he was pronounced guilty of two indictments.

In this case, the accused, D. Samarapala Gunasekera of Moratuwa was indicted by the Attorney General with possessing and trafficking more than 1.5 grams of heroin in Moratuwa.

The judge imposed ten years’ rigorous imprisonment on each count, with a fine of Rs.50,000 on each count. The sentences are to run concurrently.
