Lobster catchers nabbed

Six men catching lobsters illegally were arrested by officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Kirinda seas recently.

The suspects were sailing on dingi boats, the officials said.

The officials said that catching lobsters in February is banned since lobsters lay eggs in the month.

The raid was conducted assisted by the Coast Conservation Department officials.

Fishing nets worth Rs. 600,000 and lobsters worth Rs.100,000 were seized and the suspects and the goods will be produced before the Tissamaharama Magistrate, the officials said.
