Step up Sri Lanka explores changes in Consumer Landscape

The member body representing The Chartered Institute of Marketing Professionals in Sri Lanka held its inaugural Talking Point Programme for the year titled, ‘Step up Sri Lanka’ recently at the Union Ballroom, Hilton Colombo Residences.

An unprecedented crowd gathered at the venue and the event brought together the professional and business community in one forum to share the experience and knowledge of industry experts.

Eminent speakers at the programme were Abhishek Hariharan, Associate Vice President & Head of Planning, Mullenlowe Sri Lanka, Dilini Jayasuriya, Executive Director Breakthrough Business Intelligence (Pvt) Ltd, Murtaza Esufally, Executive Director, Hemas Holdings PLC, NushadPerera, Chief Executive & Chief of Digital Commerce, Dialog PLC, Tharanga Gunasekera, Head of Marketing and Communications, HSBC Sri Lanka, Dhananath Fernando, Chief Operating Officer, Advocata Institute and NistharCassim, Editor, Daily Financial Times, Wijeya Newspapers Ltd served as the moderator.

The programme started by presenting an overview of the Sri Lankan economy, such as the changes in the household levels, social indicators, transformation of the economy from agriculture to manufacturing and service Sectors and growth projections for2019. The speakers outlined insights on new market segments, gender roles, financial technology, social commerce and other vital observations they have gathered through extensive market research, related to changing consumer behaviour.

A vibrant interactive panel discussion that followed the sessions, presented the audience with further discerning thoughts in understanding and connecting with consumers in new and meaningful ways in the current evolving and dynamic business environment.
