Minister challenges CEB to expand online registrations

I have challenged the new CEB Chairman and his Board of Directors to facilitate the registration of customers who request for new electricity connections over the internet by April, Power, Energy and Business Development Minister Ravi Karunanayake said.

‘Electricity is a human right. Consumers have the right to request for electricity and it is our duty to supply it,’ he said.

The Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the new CEB customer service centre in Kalmunai recently.

The Minister said that he had directed relevant divisions to supply electricity to any person who requests for electricity irrespective of whether he is a permanent or a temporary resident. Minister Karunanayake said he had received complaints that no quick response was given for electricity breakdown complaints made on 1987 hotline. Consumer should be considered as a king because the CEB depends on them.

He requested all CEB breakdown crews to attend to consumer requests spontaneously. He said every effort would be made to modernise the CEB too in line with the passport office and the persons registration office by introducing new technology. Although certain politicians only thought about elections, true political leaders were those who thought of the future of the country.
