Bushfire in Kondigala reserve

A bushfire which broke out in the Kondigala forest reserve in Ella, Demodara near the Colombo – Badulla railway track destroyed nearly a seven-acre area on Sunday night.

The prevailing dry weather in the area had caused the fire to spread.

Environmentalists say that many birds, reptiles and small animals must have died due to this sudden fire.

The Police are treating the fire as arson.

Ella Police are investigating.
