The foundation stones for the constructions of the oil refinery and the cement factory in Hambantota will be laid by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on his birthday, which falls on March 24, Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa said.

The Minister was speaking at the vesting of Senasiligama model village in the public recently in Bandagiriya, Hambantota.

The Minister said these mega projects will provide job opportunities for unemployed youth in the area. These projects will also strengthen the national economy.

He said these two projects were limited to mere words in the past, but the government under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena and the vision of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, will start construction under the supervision of Minister Malik Samarawickrama.

Senasiligama is the 167th model village under the ‘New Uda Gammana’ housing programme and consists of 57 houses. The investment in this village was Rs. 45.3 million.

The model village is equipped with access to clean drinking water, electricity, and has entry roads and a network of internal roads.

Visiri housing loans worth Rs. 99 million were distributed for 495 underprivileged families on the occasion.
