First XI of Thurstan College Felicitated for Big Match Victory

The First XI Cricket team of Thurstan College led by Sandaru Dias was felicitated by principal, staff and students for their victory at the 56th encounter against Isipathana College, at SSC Grounds on February 22 and 23. This was their first victory after 26 years, the last victory being under the captaincy of Mckenzie Perera.

The felicitation ceremony commenced at the School Gate with a warm welcome by the junior students followed by a parade towards the office of the college, in turn followed by the hoisting of the National and College flags by Principal and Sandaru Dias respectively. The National and College Anthems were sung by the gathering and the traditional lighting of the oil lamp followed.

In his address Principal of Thurstan College Lakshman Dias thanked the members of the Cricket Team who did their school proud by defeating their rival. He went on to say the importance of winning the match and also that he was thankful to the master in charge Leslie Harischandra, Head Coach Thamara Abeyratne and Consulting Coach Saman Hewavitharana.

In conclusion he said it was with great pleasure to be informed of the victory of the One day Encounter around the same time as well and he vowed to see a repeat of the performance at the forthcoming T 20 match. Teachers, parents of the Cricket team, Old Boys, students and well wishers attended this ceremony.
