Sri Lanka women’s and men’s football teams on tour

The Women’s National Football Team left on Sunday to participate in the 5th SAFF Women’s Championship which will be worked off from March 12 to 22 in Nepal. Sri Lanka will compete along with the defending champions India and the Maldives in Group B, while Group A consists of Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Women’s National team was involved in their residential training under their Head Coach Tilak Alphonso and 20 players will participate in the tournament.

The women’s team will be led by Erandi Kumudumala Liyanage while her deputy will be Rushani Gunawardene.

The under 23 Men’s National team will also tour Bahrain on March 20 to take part in the AFC Under 23 Championship 2020 qualifiers which will be held from March 22-26 in Bahrain.

A total of 44 teams across Asia have been drawn into eleven groups consisting of four teams. Sri Lanka will play along with Bahrain, Palestine and Bangladesh in qualifying round under the Group B. FFSL conducted trials in January to select players for Under 23 National Team and pool of 32 players continued their residential practices at Baddagana National Football Training Centre. The existing pool consists of 5 players from Senior National Pool and the other players represent different parts of Sri Lanka especially North and Eastern Provinces.

FFSl hopes to announce the squad leaving for AFC U23 Champioship next week.
