Hot weather dries up wells

Wells that provide drinking water to schoolchildren in remote schools in the Kurunegala district have already gone dry due to the prevailing dry weather. Hence, approximately 250,000 students in remote government schools undergo many hardships, Senior School Principal P. M. Jayaweera told the media, recently.

Respective Pradeshiya Sabhas are requested to provide drinking water to schools.

Kurunegala District Senior Education Director W. M. Balasooriya, while confirming this situation, said that the Education Ministry would soon make necessary arrangements to solve this problem after consulting respective zonal directors of education in the Kurunegala district. About 563 remote schools are affected, he said.
