Johnians retain Mervyn J. Cooray Memorial trophy

St. John’s College, Panadura beat their arch rivals Royal College, Panadura by 8 wickets in their 27th Big Match and retained Mervyn J. Cooray Memorial Challenge Trophy for the second successive year when the two teams battled at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa.

Batting first Panadura Johnians scored 210 runs with Dinushka Madushan and Praveen Sandamal scoring 69 and 61 runs respectively while Dushan Madushanka claimed 6 for 56 for Royalists. In reply Panadura Royalists were bowled out for a paltry 103 runs. Praveen Sandamal claimed 3 for 19 and Ashen Dilhara captured 3 for 24. Following on Royalists were all out for 136 runs with Dushan Madushanka scoring 43 and and Kamindu Nirwarthana bowled best for Johnians with 6 for 37. Set to make 30 runs for an outright victory

Johnians notched up the required score for the loss of 2 wickets.
