Consul General appreciates ‘Mahindra’ presence in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Consul General in Mumbai, India Chamari Rodrigo met Indian multinational conglomerate Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra at Mahindra Headquarters in Mumbai, recently and expressed appreciation of the company’s presence in Sri Lanka.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M & M), which is a part of Mahindra Group and the largest manufacturer of tractors in the world, entered into a joint venture with Ideal Motors, Sri Lanka in 2018 to assemble automotive vehicles in Sri Lanka. This joint venture company is the first automotive assembly plant in Sri Lanka that provides technology transfers and training to personnel in addition to manufacturing motor vehicles.

Consul General Rodrigo thanked Mahindra for expanding M & M presence to Sri Lanka. She highlighted that the joint venture company will not only contribute to human capital development in Sri Lanka but will also enable collective development of local automotive component manufactures to international standards under global expertise of Mahindra.

Sri Lanka is one of M & M’s top three export markets.
