Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has directed the Departmentof Motor Traffic (DMT/RMV) and National Transport Medical Institute to be open on Saturdays as well, to provide an efficient service to the public.
Accordingly, all services performed by both these institutions on weekdays, including the issuance of driving licences and other related services and the issuing of certificates of physical and mental fitness to drivers, will be available on Saturdays as well.
Thousands of people visit these institutions daily to obtain these services. However, some of them cannot get their work done due to the congestion at these offices.
The Saturday facility will be beneficial for people travelling from every corner of the country. It will also reduce congestion in these two institutions on weekdays.
The major benefit is for public servants who are working on weekdays. Regional branches of the Department of Motor Traffic and National Transport Medical Institute in Gampaha and Kurunegala will also be open on Saturdays.
