Sri Lanka Cricket has recalled head coach Chandika Hathurusingha from the ongoing tour of South Africa and replaced him with fielding coach Steve Rixon who will be the acting head coach for the three-match T20I series.

Hathurusingha will return to Colombo following the completion of the fifth and final ODI against South Africa at Cape Town on March 16.

Sri Lanka trail South Africa 4-0 in the five-match series and face a 5-0 whitewash.

A media release states that Hathurusingha is being asked to return “in order to discuss Sri Lanka team’s preparation plans for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019”.

However highly placed sources of the newly elected SLC body stated that things had got out of hand during the period the SLC administration was run by the Sports Ministry appointed competent authorities where it is alleged that Hathurusingha had taken matters into his own hand. There is accusation that the team is split and players are in different camps.

“We need to address this issue seriously that is why we are getting Hathurusingha down to have a chat with him,” the source said. “We want to see how Rixon handles the team before finalizing the head coach for the World Cup.” - ST
