Army Manju, an accused in criminal case

Police sleuths investigating the double murder that took place at Moratumulla, Molpe on March 14 had identified that 47-year-old bus owner, Duminda Niroshan alias Army Manju, was an accused in a criminal case pending before the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court and a member of the Moratuwa underworld.

The other deceased was 22-year-old Chintana Sadaruwan Paranavithana, a colleague of Army Manju.

His son, Ramesh Wijayantha, 23, also received gunshot injuries and was admitted to the Piliyandala Hospital.

Two unidentified gunmen were ambushed on the road close to the house of Army Manju.

Army Manju and Chinthaka Sadaruwan who received gunshot injuries were pronounced dead upon admission to Piliyandala Hospital.

At the time, the gunmen had fired a few shots at the occupants of the three wheeler while they were arriving home after attending the Moratuwa Magistrate’s court on March 14 around 11 am in connection to the alleged assault case.

Moratuwa Magistrate visited the scene of the murder on March 14 and recorded observations and held the magisterial inquiry. He ordered the AJMO Colombo South Hospital to hold the autopsy on the bodies and submit the judicial medical report.
