Trinity rally in second half to beat Antonians

Trinity College produced a good second half performance to beat arch rivals St. Anthony’s College by 35 points (7 tries) to 10 (1 goal, 1 penalty) in their schools division I Singer League rugby match played at Pallekele Stadium yesterday.

St. Anthony’s College led by Mohamed Makarm were ahead at half-time leading 10-5, failed to keep up their good play.

After being down in the first half it was the replacements who came in the second half who helped Trinity led by Reshan Bandaranayake to turn the game in their favour. They scored five unconverted tries in the second half.

The Antonian’s with some talented players were in a confident mood after taking a 10-5 lead in the first 35 minutes of play but in the second half due to Trinity’s much stiffer opposition they failed to continue the good work. In the second half they found themselves mainly on the defence.

For the Trinitians the tries came from L.G. Kulatunge (two), and one each from K.K.D. Nethwara, A.H. Bandaranayake, N.C. Ekanayake, O.D. Ratwatte and T.H. Karunanayake. The Antonians try was scored by A.M Amarasinghe and the goal kicking and the penalty was done by T.A. Ekanayake.

The 2nd XV and the under 16 too went in favour of Trinity.
