Santhush Algama stars as Joes rout Zahira 47-5

Fly half Santhush Algama scored 15 points as St.Joseph College Maradana scored a run away 47 points (6 tries, 1 penalty try, 5 conversions) to 5 (1 try) win over hapless Zahira College Maradana team in their Singer ‘A’ Division Inter Schools league rugby tournament first round match played at Havies grounds in Havelock Park yesterday.

Joes led 28 points to Nil at half time.

From the start of the first minute of the game St.Josephs rallied around with their speedy three quarters led by play maker cum fly half Santhush Algama and came up with a sterling display in the entire match to crush their fame counterparts by running circles around them. The Nippy Algama was a source of inspiration to his entire team-mates with his spectacular runs down the ground and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring a brilliant try along with five superb conversions. For the winning Josephian team the six tries were scored by winger Tharindu Maduranga (two), scrum half Rashen Gunawardena (one), fly half Santhush Algama (one), flanker Shehan Kelaniyagoda (one) and number eight cum captain Tharindu De Alwis (one), while the five conversions were slotted in by Algama.

Losing Zahira Colleges solitary try was scored by Thuan Zaid.
