Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa Vitharana said the MC will take action to demolish unauthorized structures and will take legal actions against those who release contaminated water to the Rantaliya lake
The Kurunegala Municipal Council (MC) met yesterday chaired by the Mayor. Sumedha Arunasantha (UNP) said in the meeting that the council has bought a machinery to use for road construction work of the area but it has not been used nearly four months since it has no operator.
He also said that unauthorized buildings can be seen everywhere in Kurunegala and the council must take steps to demolish them and restrict building unauthorized structures in future. Opposition Leader Wijayananda Wedisinghe (UNP) said the PC now controls the maintenance of the Rantaliya Lake in Kurunegala.
He said the lake has been misused and its extent has been reduced now considerably.
He said hotels and other businesses by the lake release contaminated water to the lake and the council should take steps immediately to stop them.
