The 85th Josephan Peterite Battle of the Sanits ended in a draw with several records being broken by their former captain and under 19 Sri Lanka Player and all rounder Santhush Gunathilaka.

Prior to the Big Mach Santhush had 1339 runs under his belt and he was 228 runs behind fellow Peterite Angelo Perera who scored 1567 runs in the 2008/09 cricket season and 286 runs behind the all time record holder Hemal Mendis of Prince of Wales’ College with 1625 runs scored in the 1973/74 cricket season.

Joes won the toss and invited their opponents to bat first and they were all out for 219 runs in 60 overs with Santhush Gunathilaka making the top score of 72 runs bringing his tally to 1411 runs and at the end of 60 overs. Joes were 286 for 8 declared with a healthy lead of 67 runs.

Peterite in their second essay were soon in deep trouble and rounder Kanishka Maduwantha joining their chief run getter in the first essay Santhhush at the wicket and both of them went on to bring the score to 311 for 6 at stumps and save the team from certain defeat putting on a record 211 runs for the 7th wicket Santhush (161 not out) became the second highest run getter behind the all time record holder an unbeaten 204 runs by Peterite Cilve Inman in 1954.

Also he became the highest run getter in the series scoring 223 runs in the match and he erased Rohan Buultjens score of 209 runs set in 1979. Santhush representing Peterites in three Big Matches in 2017, 2018 and 2019 has collected 334 runs at an average of 84.0 and he has the fourth highest aggregate behind Rohan Buultjens 499, Clive Inman 451 and Joe Misso 408.
