Indian woman remanded for theft

A young Indian woman who allegedly robbed her Chinese friends of a camera and money, was arrested by Ella Police.

The suspect was produced before the Bandarawela Magistrate, who ordered the 25-year-old student from Sivajipuram, Lucknow in India, to be remanded until April 9.

Ma-Jin, a 32-year old Chinese national who is an English-language teacher in China, had made a complaint to the Ella Police that they had come to Sri Lanka on March 23 with the Indian national whom they had met in Goa, while touring India.

The Indian national had robbed her camera and Rs. 5,000 from her friend, also a Chinese national, she had said.

The Ella Police arrested the Indian national with the camera and money, at a restaurant in Ella. Police are continuing investigations under the instructions of OIC IP A.M.M.K. Alagiyawanna.
