Celebrating the diversity of the film world

CEL Circuit was formed in 2001, pioneering the cinema industry with Ceylon Theatres (Pvt) Ltd, Cinemas Ltd and Ceylon Entertainments Ltd as its stakeholders.

CEL circuit currently operates with 30 film theatres equipped with the latest technology and features. Some are as complexes with five, three and two cinemas together in one building.

From 2001 to 2019 CEL circuit has released 90 Sinhala release films in the main theatres comprising Regal, Lido and other cinemas island wide. The films of internationally acclaimed film directors such as Chandram Rutnam, Prasanna Vithanage, Late Dr.Lester James Peiris, Sumithra Peiris , Asoka Handagama, Udayakantha Warnasooriya , Benet Ratnayake , Inoka Satyangani etc. were screened. Young and up coming film directors have been able to showcase their films at the circuit as well. Most of the films screened have won awards at local and international film festivals.

CEL circuit is the main distributor for Tamil, English and Hindi films. From 2014 to 2018 they have distributed 143 Tamil films including blockbusters like ‘Bahubali’, ‘Bahubali 2’, ‘Aranmanai 2’, ‘Bairava’, ‘Vickram Vedha’, ‘Vivegam’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Mersal’, ‘Kaala’, ‘Viswaroopam 2’, ‘Vada Chennai’ which stars actors like Vijay, Ajith, Rajnikanth and Kamal Hasan. 115 English films including blockbusters like ‘Godzilla’, ‘Fast & Furious’, ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’, ‘Batman vs Superman’ have been screened. 54 Hindi films including box office hits like ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Bombay Velvet’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Padmavat’ and ‘Race 3’ starring ace actors like Sharukh Khan, Salman Khan and others have unspooled at the CEL circuit.

As a circuit they pay the Sinhala film producers their film shares in time and they also pay advances to the producers and suppliers. Most of the producers and directors have appreciated the services rendered by the circuit throughout the years.

Their nest attraction ‘Jayasri Amathithuma’ will release on April 26 followed by ‘Kathuru Mithuru’, ‘Ghardi’, and ‘Gindari 2’.
