Heat advisory for NWP, N-E

The Meteorology Department yesterday issued an ‘extreme caution’ weather advisory against the heat, for most parts of the North Western Province and the Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Hambantota and Moneragala districts.

The temperature felt on the human body is expected to increase to ‘extreme caution’ level in most parts of the North Western Province and Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Hambantota and Moneragala districts today, the Meteorology Department warned.

The Met Department advised workers at outdoor sites to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible.

The Met Department also cautioned the public to check up on the elderly and the sick, never leave children unattended, limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, and stay hydrated and wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

In other parts of the country, mainly fair weather will prevail, the Department said.

However, showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in the Ratnapura and Moneragala districts after 2.00 pm.

Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces during the morning.
