Over Rs. 274 mn in loans for 664 youth

The Enterprise Sri Lanka - Thurunu Diriya Loan Scheme which was implemented to empower small and medium entrepreneurs has successfully disbursed loans worth over Rs. 274 million among 664 young entrepreneurs by the first week of April.

This scheme has been disbursing loans among young entrepreneurs in all the 25 districts of the island.

According to the weekly progress report issued by Bank of Ceylon, on Wednesday, the Ratnapura District and the Sabaragamuwa Province led the district-wise and provincial-wise loan disbursements by distributing 104 and 131 loans respectively. A nine percent increase in the loan disbursement range was noted in the Central Province compared to the previous week. A 10 percent increase in the loan disbursement range was noted in the Matara District. The Thurunu Diriya progress discussion meeting was held on March 22 at the District Secretariat.

The Thurunu Diriya loan scheme was implemented by Bank of Ceylon with the assistance of the Policy Development Office (PDO) of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Central Programme Management Unit (CPMU) and the Small Enterprises Development Division (SEDD) of the National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministry, to provide financial assistance to potential young entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka.

This loan scheme provides loans without a guarantor and collateral or with lenient guarantor conditions, to entrepreneurs below 40 years, who possess a degree or a recognised vocational certificate and who has been in the business for a minimum of three years.
