Unions warn of anti-SAITM force after Avurudu

All decisions made by Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to register SAITM graduates and those who had failed the GCE Advanced Level examination, as MBBS doctors, will be defeated, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Assistant Secretary Dr. Navin De Zoysa said.

Speaking at a press conference at the GMOA headquarters in Colombo yesterday evening, he said all former anti-SAITM forces will be united again and established as one powerful force and will work to defeat Minister Senaratne’s decision.

Speaking at another press conference at the OPA yesterday evening, the media spokesman of the Parents’ Union of State Medical Students, Wasantha Alwis said the Anti-SAITM Force will decide on its plan of action after the New Year. SAITM has already been closed through an Act of Parliament and the Health Minister is trying his best to give it life to establish private medical education in Sri Lanka.

The previous front which fought against SAITM and won will unite again and the same front will be re-activated to defeat the Health Minister’s efforts to register SAITM graduates and those who had failed the GCE Advanced Level examination as MBBS doctors, he said.
