Student’s chain lands principal in hot water

A school principal in Panadura is on the mat for confiscating a gold chain valued at over Rs. 75,000 from a student and throwing it in his wastepaper basket.

A complaint had been made to the Panadura Police Minor Offences Branch by the student's mother regarding the incident that happened on March 13. The student told the police that the principal berated him and snatched the gold chain from his neck, valued at around Rs. 75,000, and threw it into the wastepaper basket in his room. Thereafter, the chain had gone missing.

The principal had admitted to the incident that had occurred in the school. He agreed to pay the value of the chain to the parent if it was not found. The student's mother had agreed with police to settle the case. The principal had agreed to replace the chain with a similar one confiscated from the student.
