Three hundred and fifty-seven naval recruits pass out

Three hundred and fifty-seven naval recruits of the Navy Regular and Volunteer forces, belonging to the second phase of 235 intakes, passed out at the SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa, on Wednesday.

North-central Naval Area Commander Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Religious dignitaries, commandant of SLNS Shiksha, Captain Janaka Nissanka, senior and junior naval officers of Navy Headquarters and the SLNS Shiksha, as well as senior officers of the tri-forces and the police, were also present at the event.

Recruit H.H.M.B. Weerasooriya was judged Best Recruit, as well as the Recruit obtaining the Highest Aggregate in all the subjects. Female Recruit M.A.C.M. Dharmarathna received the award for the Best Markswoman, while Recruit S.T.C. Jayalath and Female Recruit R.H.M.T.A. Gunawardena won the award for the Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman, respectively.

The Abheetha Division was selected as the Best Division.Further, 188 recruits belonging to the first phase of 235th intake, on completion of their basic training, passed out at the SLNS Vidura in Sampoor, last Friday. Accordingly, 545 recruits of the 235th intake have completed their basic training and joined the naval service.
