Workshop for Batticaloa provincial correspondents

A workshop for provincial correspondents in the Batticaloa district, under the theme ‘Stand together for the country’; jointly organised by Government Information Department and the Sri Lanka Press Council; took place at the Batticaloa District Secretariat, yesterday.

A discussion was held on the development projects initiated by the government, as well as the efficiency of the media. Suggestions were given by Thinakaran Editor Varamanjari and Assistant Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Director Dr. S. Moses.

The Batticaloa Government Agent listed the following 216 projects; the Grama Shathi Programme, the Small Agriculture Assistance Project, the National Programme on Food Production, the National Environmental Conservation Programme, the National Drugs Prevention Programme, the Chronic Diseases Prevention Programme, the Sustainable School Development Programme, the Save the Children Programme, the Person with Special needs and Elders Empowerment Programme, and the Mobile Service to Obtain Lands, National Identity Cards and Passports; implemented in the 14 secretarial divisions of the Batticaloa district, where nearly 173,000 families would be beneficiaries.

The duties and responsibilities of propagating the President’s ideas and schemes for national development were also discussed at the meeting.

Government Information Department Director Hardi Jeyatissa; Assistant Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Press Council, Iyal Wijesinghe; Assistant Commissioner of Government Information Department, L.P. Thilagaretna; Assistant Government Agent E. Naveswaran; and Batticaloa District Secretariat Information Officer S. Jeevananthan participated in the meeting as well.
