Man fined Rs. 130,00 for shooting at wildlife officers

A suspect who was arrested by the Wildlife Department for shooting at wildlife officers on security patrol was found guilty by Hambantota Magistrate yesterday.

The suspect arrested along with another was fined a Rs. 130,000.

He was arrested with a weapon last Wednesday when he shot at wildlife officers who were security patrolling in Bandagiriya, Thammennawa, Anukkanwewa and fled.

The DWC officers also found a killed porcupine, parts of a deer and some explosives with the suspect. Another suspect who had butchered the killed animals was also arrested.

The two suspects were produced before Hambantota Magistrate and were found guilty as charged.
