Fishery harbours to get modern facilities

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry will provide freezing and ice production facilities for fishery harbours very soon.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development State Minister Dilip Wedhaarchchi said discussions were successfully held with the Malaysian, Korean and Chinese delegations to get financial and technological support in this regard.

With these facilities at the 22 fishery harbors in the island, the fishermen can conserve their fish harvest for a long period. The Fishery Harbours Corporation will coordinate the development project called ‘Smart Fishery Harbor Programmes’, Ministry sources said.

The State Minister said Korea will support to develop the Kalamatiya Fishery Harbour. The harbour will be provided with drinking water from the sea and solar power under the project.
