The Saudi Arabian government has agreed to provide a concessional loan of Saudi Riyals (SAR) 187.5 million to establish a fully equipped Medical Faculty at the Sabaragamuwa University, in Ratnapura.

The loan will be obtained from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).

This project envisages the construction and establishment of state-of-the-art facilities for a world-class Medical Faculty at the University. This programme is line with the government policy of augmenting the opportunities for higher education in the field of medicine in Sri Lanka.

A delegation headed by Finance Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga with Education Secretary Priyantha Mayadunne and External Resources Department Director General Priyantha Rathnayake recently visited Riyadh from April 6 to 9 in this regard.

They held discussions with the SFD delegation headed by Mohammed Aldolailan, Acting Director General, Operations Department and Advisor to the SFD, Alobaid Bandar Abdullah, Engineer (Project Manager) and Alrashed Mohammad Abdullah, Engineer (Project Manager).
