Three-member committee report on terrorist attacks to be submitted to House

President Maithripala Sirisena says that after receiving the report of the three-member committee appointed to investigate the causes and background for the terrorist attacks, the content of that report will be open for all the parties.

The committee headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge is scheduled to be submitted within two weeks.

The President said the report will be presented to Parliament and the future security measures will be taken accordingly.

President Sirisena made these remarks during a meeting held with the senior security officers, including the newly appointed Defence Secretary General Shantha Kottegoda at the Ministry of Defence, yesterday (30).

The progress was reviewed on the missions conducted to take the terrorists in to custody and the President emphasized that terrorism should be completely eradicated and in order to strengthen national security.

The President pointed out that after facing this terrorist attack, actions were taken against terrorism in a speedier manner and thanked the Intelligence agencies and the Security Forces for the success achieved in conducting such operations.

The issues discussed included ensuring the security of schools by carrying out a proper security programme as well as conducting the daily duties of government offices in a normal manner. The President stressed that normal life in the country should not be hindered in any way.

New Defence Secretary General Kottegoda said that President Sirisena will extend his maximum support to the eradication of terrorism and to establish a stable country while assuring national security.

State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene, Secretary to the President Udaya R. Senevirathne, Advisory to the Defence Ministry–Former IGP N.K.Ilangakoon and senior Defence Ministry officials also participated.
