The benefits of the Suraksha Insurance Scheme will be provided to the schoolchildren affected by the Easter Sunday terror attacks, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
The insurance payment will be in addition to the compensation paid by the Government. Observing that the benefits of the Suraksha Insurance scheme have been doubled this year, the minister said the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks could be provided some relief through the programme.
He said the details of students affected by the terror attacks would be collected when the schools open.
The minister further said that a counseling programme would also commence shortly to help students suffering from emotional shock after the terror attacks.
“Some students have lost their parents. Some have lost their siblings and relatives. The students are suffering from shock due to the traumatic events. Therefore, we decided to conduct counselling programmes with the assistance of volunteer groups from foreign countries,” he said.
