This year marks the third anniversary of the Jaffna Central College (JCC) Edu Care Trust.

Three years ago, six past students of the Jaffna Central College held discussions on raising the educational standards of the school and soon after, the JCC Edu Care Trust was launched. It was inaugurated in March, 2016, with the participation of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. According to JCC Edu Care Trust Chairman P. Krishnakumar, the trust was formed with an aim to improve the academic performance of the students at the college through scholarship programmes, educational assistance programmes, as well as by collaborating with regulatory bodies to ensure the school received the right support to progress in its academic ambitions.

Krishnakumar said, “As old boys of the Jaffna Central College, we have a duty to help its students reach greater heights in their academic fields. We have seen a lack of support, both financially and academically, in the past, which has had a negative impact on the performance of students.”

He added, “The JCC Edu Care Trust attempts to fill this gap by providing the necessary support for students to succeed in their education.”

During the past three years, the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination has been the flagship programme of JCC Edu Care Trust.

The JCC Edu Care Trust has also launched programmes for subjects such as English and Information Technology, as well as for extra-curricular activities such as karate and chess.
