LEADS celebrates 35 years in Sri Lanka

LEADS, a child focused National NGO celebrated its 35th anniversary with the students of Thalamitiya Siri Saman Vidyalaya in Ratnapuraby opening the newly renovated school hall funded by the organization. The hall which aims to accommodate around 700 children will be used to host school events.

“The request for this project was directed by a past pupil who continues to motivate the small school with minimum facilities to implement projects towards the improvement of the school.In addition to our contribution, the principal raised funds and the students took the initiative to renovate the school hall that was falling apart” District Coordinator of the LEADS office in Ratnapura, Manjula Samaranayake said.

The excitement and appreciation of the students were evident in their delightful performance at the newly redone school hall. The objective of this project was to help students complete their education and be positive influences in society. The event concluded with the planting of fruit trees to symbolize new beginnings.

LEADS is a child focused National NGO and registered as a charity by act of Parliament serving communities in need for over 35 years. LEADS was at the fore in working to establish the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) in 1998 providing the skilled human resources required at its inception. The child protection division ESCAPE also operates the only government approved residential care and therapy centres for child survivors of sexual abuse in the Western and Northern provinces in response to a growing need for this manner of dedicated therapeutic support.
