A woman was killed when the scooter she was travelling in met with an accident at the Pahathgama junction, Hanwella, Padukka, yesterday.
Her scooter crashed with a tipper and she was admitted to the Homagama Base hospital, but died there because of the serious injuries she sustained, police said.
The deceased R.P. Romesha Anuruddhika (45) was a resident of Hanwella Cross Road. The deceased woman used to sell lottery tickets. That morning, she had obtained lottery tickets from a sales representative in Padukka and went to the Hanwella to sell them. On her return home, she met with the accident. The tipper was travelling from Avissawella to Homagama, police said.
The driver of the tipper has been arrested by the Hanwella Police and is to be produced before the Avissawella Magistrate.
